Professor Ian Puddey MBBS, FRACP, MD

Professor Ian Puddey is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Western Australia. He was awarded the Nutrition Society of Australia Medal in 2005 and the National Heart Foundation of Australia (WA Branch) President's Award in 2007.

Professor Puddey is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and member of the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention, International Society and Federation of Cardiology. He is also a member of the High Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia, Australian Atherosclerosis Society, Nutrition Society of Australia and Australian Medical Association.

He has had longstanding clinical and research interests in all aspects of diet, alcohol use and lifestyle as they pertain to modification of cardiovascular risk factors and prevention of coronary artery disease and stroke. Professor Puddey's research interests also focus on the broader question of the role of oxidative stress in hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia, and the relative importance of oxidative stress (and its therapeutic modification) for the atherosclerotic process.
