CRT 2017 WA Collaborative Cancer Research Grant

In July 2017, the CRT announced funding of $750,000 pa plus an additional 30% matched funding for five years for Professor Christobel Saunders’ (UWA) application “Patients First: the Continuous Improvement in Care – Cancer (The CIC-Cancer Project)”.

Senior Cancer Research Fellowship
The Senior Cancer Research Fellowship was established to support the ‘brain gain’ in medical research in WA by providing both salary and project grant support for exceptional mid-career cancer researchers who have demonstrated significant leadership potential. The Fellowship is for 5 years, subject to mid-term review, and provides a contribution to salary of $250,000 pa and research support from the host organisation.
Genomic researcher Professor Alistair Forrest was awarded this Fellowship in January 2015 and joined the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research to continue his important work in systems Biology and Genomics with a renewed focus on cancer.
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship program was established to provide support for outstanding cancer researchers in the early stages of their career. The Fellowship is for 5 years, subject to mid-term review, and provides a contribution of $150,000pa to salary support for the successful candidate.
Melanoma researcher Dr Elin Gray from Edith Cowan University was awarded this Fellowship in January 2014 which allowed her to strengthen her research into the role of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) in melanoma patients and expand to other cancer types.
